[In the first century,] everywhere the word of God went, the church went. When the
word of God was proclaimed, it produced nothing but the body of Christ. Following
the preaching tours of Paul, regardless of which conversion one would want to
examine, he will find that truth was riveted in prospects' hearts every time. Read
about Paul as he went to Philippi. Read about how he carried the gospel for the
first time into Europe. Review the conversion of Lydia and her household. Recall the
conversion of the jailer. In later years, Paul wrote, "...to all the saints in
Christ Jesus which are at Philippi with the bishops and deacons." That's the
church. Remember the apostle went to Corinth. The Bible records in Acts 18:8,
"...Many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized." Later, he
wrote to them, "Unto the church of God which is at Corinth."
The church, friends, is the result of the Gospel of Christ. Where the gospel goes, the church goes. |
