Where In The Bible Will I Find...
That The Bible Is Inspired Of God? Gary Colley |
Before the Bible can do anyone any good, it must be believed and accepted that it is inspired of God (2 Pet. 1:20-21). In spite of the tremendous impact for good that the Bible has had upon mankind, many who profess to be its friends deny many of its basic and fundamental doctrines and are actually its enemies (Phil. 3:18-19; Col. 1:21-23). All of the most wonderful predictive elements of the Old Testament are fulfilled in the New Testament, but are denied by false teachers. These events, such as the virgin birth of Christ (Isa. 7:14), the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the apostles (Acts 2) and Cornelius (Acts 10) which constituted the "all flesh" of Jews and Gentiles (Joel 2:28; Acts 2:15-18), prove the inspiration of the Scriptures. Some attempt to "explain away" these things as "happenstance" or non-essential. At one time those attempts were made by unbelievers, but today it is not unusual to hear of prominent religious leaders who also reject these fundamental doctrines of the Christian faith. The Bible indisputably claims for itself the inspiration of God, and that it is not merely "cunningly devised fables" (2 Pet. 1:16-17). About 40 men were engaged in writing the Bible and their work was done over a period of 1,600 years. The wonderful and powerful fact remains that one statement is never contradicted by another in the Bible. Prophecies were made and fulfilled to the letter. Only one explanation can correctly be given for this amazing fact -- they were all guided by one Spirit. In almost every event in the life of Christ, there was a fulfilled prophecy. Also, many scientific facts were anticipated by the ancient prophets of God. Job knew of an empty place over the north (Job 26:7) that was not known to man until modern times. Isaiah knew the earth was round (Isa. 40:22) 2,000 years before Columbus discovered the New World and Magellan sailed around the earth, proving its rotundity. David knew of the "paths in the sea" (Psa. 8:8) -- a fact which was not discovered by uninspired men until the 19th century. All of these facts are given in the Bible. They cannot be accounted for, except for the fact that God inspired this wonderful book. Will you let the Bible be your guide in life? |
