Where In The Bible Will I Find...
We Must Abide In Christ's Doctrine (II)?

Last month we pointed out the fact that differing doctrines, not in harmony with the Bible, make different religions and should be rejected by all today. The Truth which Christ brought to the world must be our only rule of faith and practice if we want to go to heaven (John 14:6). It is a sad fact that different doctrines divide folks into denominationalism.

Not all religious teachings are right in the eyes of God. The world was religious when Christ came, but His teaching constituted the keys to heaven (Matt. 16:18-19). We should not be satisfied with doctrines not found in the Bible, lest our worship to God be in vain (Matt. 15:9). All should be satisfied to follow Paul's command to, "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). This we will do when we are all convinced that the Bible is verbally inspired, and the complete, powerful will of God to man.

Paul wrote, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We are commanded to, "prove all things; hold fast that which is good" (1 Thess. 5:21). Test ("prove") the following with your Bible:
  1. One teaches that a child of God can fall from grace and be lost, which another teaches that he cannot fall and be lost (1 Cor. 10:12-13; Gal. 5:4; Heb. 6:4-6).

  2. One teaches that the baptism of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, and spiritual gifts are for us today, while another teaches that miraculous measures of the Holy Spirit have ceased (1 Cor. 13:8-10).

  3. One teaches that we must meet and worship on Saturday, while another teaches that we must meet and worship on Sunday (Luke 24:1; Acts 2; Rev. 1:9-10; Heb. 10:1-10).
Not all of the above three things can be true. But by study and the exercise of our discernment between good and evil, we can determine what is truth and what is error (Heb. 5:12-14).
