There is a wave of uncertainty sweeping our world today. Many say we just
cannot know for certain if something is or is not — anything. For example, if
something is right or wrong. This dilemma, or heresy, is known as Agnosticism.
The word "agnostic" is taken from two Greek words: gnosis which means "to know," and a which is a prefix denoting a negation. Therefore, agnosis simply says that one cannot know. Such dogma only breeds more uncertainty in the minds of both present and future generations. This heresy is not only depressing, but it is devastating to one's complete being. It causes one to flounder helplessly in life, not being able to know anything for certain. Such people wander through life only hoping, without any basis for such hope, that things will turn out all right. Generally, those who fall prey to Agnosticism do so because of a desire to follow their own way rather than God's way. Simply stated, "I believe..." or "Perhaps..." is much easier for them to swallow than "God demands..." This concept is prevalent in many of the postmodern religious circles today, and it is even now creeping into the body of Christ. "There are no absolutes in religion!" they cry. "We cannot know for sure what is truth and what is error; we cannot know if there is a God or not; we cannot know if we are saved or lost." Some have even gone to the extreme, saying "we cannot know for sure if we really exist!" What ridiculous debauchery! This is one of Satan's many tools used to place doubt in the Christian's mind, knowing that such doubt leads to his ruin. After all, who wants to place their confidence in something so flimsy and slippery as a religion that just doesn't know? That is exactly how Satan wants to present Christianity: a religion that just doesn't know anything for sure. Such a mockery of the word of God! Jesus said in no uncertain terms, "...Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," (John 8:32). There was no doubt in Jesus' words as He spoke to the believing Jews. He was sure; He was certain; He was confident that they could and would know the truth. We can know for certain that there is a God. This whole universe was built by design. It is designed in such an order that any change in the circuit of the earth, the tilt of the earth, or in the distance from the sun or moon (even by just 1 percent) would cause the earth to be uninhabitable. Every aspect of the design and order of the universe is so vital that it is impossible to believe it all happened by accident. The human body is another splendor that simply could not have happened by sheer chance. Our body is made up of multiple systems all working together and depending upon one another. Each one compliments the other. All of these things speak of a design, and if there is a design, there has to be a Designer: God. We can know assuredly that the Bible is God's word. There are only four possibilities for the author of the Bible.
Dear friend, you have a choice, you can believe the lie of the agnostic if you want to and go through life without any certainty of hope, or you can rest assured on the Word of God. But as for me and my house, we will believe the Lord! Don't be led astray by the messengers of Satan and flounder in a sea of uncertainty. Jesus said "Ye shall know the truth." Yes, we can know; my Lord told me so. |
