Measures Of The Spirit

Franklin Camp

Measures of the Spirit are not varying amounts of the Spirit Himself, but greater or less portions of power which the Holy Spirit exercised through people. Miraculous powers, such as those which were to follow the believers of Mark 16:16-18, and the gift of the Holy Spirit identified in Acts 10:45, as enabling one to speak in tongues were measures peculiar to the apostolic age, and thus no longer available. Today the Holy Spirit leads (Rom. 8:14), and produces fruit in our lives (Gal. 5:16-24), by means of the Word of Truth which the Holy Spirit provided through the pens of inspired men (1 Cor. 2:13). He does so in no other way. The all-sufficiency of the Word, in every good work (are there others???) is by the Holy Spirit Himself affirmed (2 Tim. 3:16-17).
