Bible Riddle: October 2004

Not one is found serving
In the pastoral capacity,
Without another, or several;
Paul had Titus ordain a plurality.

Have you read how they are husband
To only one wife,
With children believing?
Thus no woman could suffice,
Nor a man of the single life.

Go look in Paul's letters,
For examples, for instructions,
And qualifications,
None are difficult deductions.

The Hebrew writer and Peter too,
Gave those men exhortations.
Shepherd, pastor, elder, bishop,
All are Biblical appellations,
When applied...
Per God's intentions.

Answer to September 2004's Riddle —

"The LORD rebuke thee.".

  • Jude writes his letter, warning Christians to ernestly contend for the faith, which had been delivered once for all, from evil men creeping in stealthily. In describing them, they despise dominion and speak evil of dignities. One example is Michael the archangel, who would not even presume to rebuke the devil!

JUDE 1:8 - 10 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.
Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.
