The churches of Christ salute you. — Romans 16:16

Three New Studies for Winter 2011-2012:

What It Means To Accept Christ
How tragic that from the uninformed to the obedience-averse, souls are lost at the threshold of salvation, rather than being saved upon completion of the requirements commanded for receiving the gift of eternal life. To be saved by the Grace that God offers, we must accept its terms, not just an acknowledgement that the gift is offered.

Kent Bailey steps us through the scriptural teaching on receiving Christ — where the concept of 'accepting' Christ occurs, though not stated explicity as "accepting." Highly recommended to all!

Here is good way to start: write down exactly what you did to be saved — leave nothing out! Then match your story to the Word. Be ready to follow through and complete the transaction if you find that you have not fully abided by the Holy Writ. The Lord wants you to be saved: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (II Peter 3:9).

If Baptists Practiced What They Preach
Jerry C. Brewer considers a fundamental Baptist Church doctrine, extending its further implications to its several possible outcomes.

A backup doctrine in answer is that 'those who follow such outcomes were never saved.' However, Simon, who had previously used sorcery before he believed, obeyed the same gospel as many others in Samaria who heard Philip preach Christ. When Simon later witnessed the Holy Ghost given by apostles Peter and John with the laying on of hands, he offered to pay for the ability to also give the Holy Ghost. Simon was then in danger of not being forgiven of his wickedness and was admonished to repent and pray to God (Acts 8:5-24).

Matthew 23:1-28: A Modern Application
Moved to sharp denunciation as found in Jesus' pronouncement of eight Woes in Matthew Chapter 23, Jerry C. Brewer makes application to the practices of today's religious leaders. The prophet Isaiah also pronounced one of the Lord's woes hundreds of years earlier: "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" (Isaiah 5:20)

In this attempt to startle, but in the spirit of the Apostle Paul, "Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?" (Galatians 4:16), our author takes seriously the Word as did Paul: "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: (Colossians 1:27-28).

It is with the hope that, like those in Corinth, the result will be the same: "Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death" (2 Corinthians 7:9-10). See entire passage: 2 Corinthians 7:8-12
