The Divine Origin Of The Church

The Divine Origin Of The Church
Christ built his church in history, and since: the gates of hell have not prevailed against it. Contrary to what our friends believe — who are members of other churches (denominational-types) — Christ did not insert a church as "Plan-B" when he was rejected, surprisingly to Him, rather than establish a kingdom on earth. Jerry C. Brewer takes you, very methodically, along the scriptural pathways which make this clear. Come; feast on gospel precepts and truth!

The Conversion Of The Doomed Jailor
Let every man be of good cheer! Jesus bid this greeting of hope 5 times in scripture, and the Apostle Paul used this positive benediction to encourage sailors and fellow passengers expecting death from a raging tempest. Likewise, Ron Cosby brings good cheer from the faithful study of the Philippian jailor's life-crisis to his rejoicing.

'Tis The Season'... Or Is It?
Does a Bible student read, concerning the observance of Christ's birth, "this do in rembrance of me" (I Corinthians 11:23-26)." No, not at all! Christians remember Jesus Christ each and every Lord's day as they partake of the Lord's supper. H. Leo Boles' short message entreats the faithful follower of the law of Christ to observe the good of the Christmas season throughout the whole year, eschewing always the evils of the season.

"But He Lied Unto Him"
Fred E. Dennis brings Old Covenant truths for our enlightenment and admonition. If we be good students of this schoolmaster, we can apply the lessons to the New Covenant which we are under today: For God changes not (Malachi 3:6).

Dialogue On Sodomy, No. 2
[Editor's Note: This is the second and final email dialogue that passed between a Christian and his friend who announced he had embraced the sodomite lifestyle. No names are used in these articles.] Frank discussion, presenting the truth in love.

How To Be Sound
H. M. Phillips gives two examples: of walking the talk, and just talking it. His brief exhortation is in the spirit that Paul wrote unto Titus: "In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you" (Titus 2:7-8).

Separation Is Coming In Judgement
A careful reading of a well known parable of Jesus comes from W. R. Craig. It is about the church, not the world, revealing that there are members who will be lost because of how they have lived their lives. A sturn admonition to every believer to stay the course, live a life unto the spirit and not the flesh, being faithful unto death. Short but poignant!

Continue To The End ( reprise )
A 90-second reminder from Harold Gardner: we must persevere in the truth rather than having a transient obedience — not drawing back into the former lusts nor persuing fables for itching ears!

The Crucial Issue Of Authority
Christianity Is Not Denominational ( reprise )
James asked "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter (James 3:11)?" Jesse P. Sewell notes "We do not see several sheep-folds with as many different doors. The Bible shows us only one sheep-fold with only one door and all of Christ's called out entering in through that one door."

Things To Which Salvation Is Ascribed ( reprise )
W. R. Craig: The subject of salvation is fully discussed in the New Testament, and it is to that book we must go for information about the salvation of our souls.
