Is The Gospel Really The Power?

Is The Gospel Really The Power?
Cled E. Wallace gives an exposition on Romans 1:16, in review of an article in The Baptist and Reflector. Our friends have difficulties with this scripture. Peter wrote "Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:" (II Peter 1:2-3) That knowledge is the gospel, and Paul says that is where the power resides: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek." (Romans 1:16)

When Virtues Become Vices
Robin W. Haley exhorts us to guard against the subtle sins of virtues gone wrong. Let us not have our expressions of Christian graces be changed into vices in the manner of hypocrisy and legalism: "For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:20)

"They Have Moses and The Prophets"
The brothers of the rich man in Torments, of Jesus' account in Luke, had Moses and the prophets for the words of life. Marvin L. Weir gives the perfect replacement of those words, since available to the world's families following the establishment of the church on Pentecost. As you make your life's choices, hear the words of the perfect law of liberty (James 1:25), that faith once for all delivered (Jude 3)

Righteousness Through The Gospel
R. L. Whiteside presents a deep thought in exchange for a minute of your time. Our only hope, simply laid out before us...

Hell Is Hot!
Human belief is neither a necessary nor sufficient conditon for the existence of most things. Jesse Whitlock examines the disbelief widely found in that truly existent place of torment: Hell. Jesus spoke more about Hell than any other person found in scripture. How can you believe that Jesus is God if you don't believe what he has said? The opinions of men are weighed against the scriptures in this succinct article.

The Conversion Of God-Slayers
Ron Cosby opens with the grim vendetta promised by a father to the killer of his son. Man's heart is slow to forgive, unless man becomes Christ-like. Oh consider the wonderful love of a God and a Savior for sinners such as we, even His love for those who physically acted to bring about the death of Jesus! Open your heart, along with the preacher toward God's magnificence.

Devices Of The Devil To Draw Us Away
Herein Chuck Northrop brings to our attention four of Satan's devices to draw us away from salvation into sin. These points are subtle to the casual observer, their result: denominationalism.

"Liquid, Fragile, Perishable, or Potentially Hazardous?"
Jerry C. Brewer shows from scripture some of the properties of truth, in their spiritual aspect which bears analogy to some physical properties of matter. An excellent review for the Bible student, new or old.

Mormonism's Three Inadmissible Witnesses - No. 2
The second of three articles examining the credibility of the men who were Joseph Smith's "witnesses" to the "authenticity" of The Book of Mormon, by Jerry C. Brewer. Hear Paul, a worthy witness of the Lord: "But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed... For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." (Galatians 1:8-9, 12).
