Strict Or Loose Constructionists?

Strict Or Loose Constructionists?
That history may not repeat, but often will rhyme, has been attributed to Mark Twain. Jerry C. Brewer shows how the two subject propositions debated about the Word of the Lord over the centuries parallel the ongoing constitutional debate from the founding of these United States. Needless to say, the original debate over the Word continues today, and your actions in concert with either position have eternal consequence...

Paul's Thorn In The Flesh
Gary L. Grizzell gives the busy web-reader a potent summary of Paul's three-fold solution in overcoming temptation.

Church Attendance and Daily Living
What a rich treat from the pen of E. G. Sewell over a century ago! Wisdom, experience, and hope flow from his reflections on the Word of truth: "God does not arbitrarily send anyone to either place, but each responsible person 'sends' himself to his final destination by the kind of life he chooses to live."

They Cannot Learn By Observation
Stephen Settle: "The existence of false and absurd religions and false gods disproves no argument in favor of the True God and genuine religion, any more than a counterfeit dollar disproves the existence of the genuine dollar. In fact, there could be no counterfeit of anything if the genuine article did not exist."

What The Bible Has To Say
About Who The Lord Adds To His Church

A concise overview of the subject question which must be answered by the truth seeker who would find the true body of Christ, the church He built. Jesse Whitlock asks you five pertinent questions, giving the answers from scripture to each, in turn.

Words Are Known By The Company They Keep
W. Claude Hall does the math: if A=B and B=C, then A=C. Some words are not considered so bad these days, but we see that they are in the lineup with the grossest abominations which shall NOT inherit eternal life. Let us think more highly of our brethern than ourselves and our own desires (Phil 2:3)!

Identifying Christ's Church
You are encouraged in your study of the sacred scriptures by Michael Hatcher, who puts forward some of the identifying marks or characteristics of Christ's church, much in the way a detective seeks to identify an individual out of the masses. This research, much like solving a math problem was commanded by Paul: "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil 2:12).

Silence Can Be Restrictive
God need not tell us everything which Christians cannot do. His silence regarding any action does not permit it to be practicable. Robin W. Haley brings seven scriptures to our attention to illustrate this Biblical concept. An efficiently compacted study.

A Timely Warning For All Generations
M. O. Daley expands at length in a study of the scriptures warning of the 'tares' which the Devil sows and has sown in the church. He observes that a major reason for the easy injection into and rapid growth of divisive teaching in the church in any age is sympathy of some in the church with those who teach error. Join brother Daley as he rightly divides the Word...

The Uncertainty Of Unbelief
The forces which the unbeliever supposes have created the universe will someday terminate, be dissipated into entropy, while the Christian's god is eternal and omnipotent. A moving target, their truth rapidly becomes forgotten lies as each new fanciful idea overtakes their unbounded imaginations. Cled E. Wallace reviews a scientist from the past who was wise in his own eyes. As Paul instructed, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called" (I Tim 6:20).

Overcoming Temptation
Toney Smith highlights love and loyalty in obedience to God, eschewing temptations. A short, thoughtful essay to think about.

Things We Cannot Escape
Three of those things which we cannot escape should be sobering to any individual. Jerry C. Brewer places these three things before us from the scriptures, and concludes with a joyful outlook for the penitent and obedient!
