Reverence For The Word Of God

Reverence For The Word Of God
"The only moral power ordained of God for the conversion of sinners is His word, and the man who has no reverence for that word is beyond recovery." J. I. Lowell gives us 8 of the purposes for which God has appointed his Holy Word, within his meticulous study of the source of man's saving knowledge.

Man's Responsibility In Salvation
The Holy Spirit has anticipated every error brought forward in history, and Preston Silcox cites 16 verses of scripture to counter Calvinism's, or men's teaching. He presents the question of the convicted, the sword of the spirit, and the task of the transgressor in his defense of the Holy Writ, inspired writings which we should and must reverence.

Strange Fire: Lessons From The Past
Alton Fonville shows how proper discernment brings the lessons of the distant past to bear in today's handling aright the teaching of the scriptures. Read this brief study on the practice of worship in spirit and in truth.

There Is One Body, Or "Church"
A grand old sermon based on the gospel truth by J. D. Tant. The gospel of Christ is still the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16). His body, the church, is that foundation, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1Cor. 3:11).

Upon What May We Rely?
"It is usually a good reminder to consider what the Bible teaches regarding the source of our authority in religious matters." Robin W. Haley provides a concise review of this key topic. Again, men tell us that we are to choose the "faith of our choice..." but — we must "obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:9b).

By The Light Of The Empty Tomb
Roelf L. Ruffner recounts many of the false claims regarding the most singular and miraculous event in history: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago. True in history, documented in the scriptures and contemporary writings of the period: these include the accounts of many witnesses to these events. In this article we will be concerned with the resurrection of Jesus in light of his burial.

Calling On The Name Of The Lord
"You might be surprised to know that 'calling on the name of the Lord' doesn't mean praying. Many people think that you can initially have your sins forgiven by praying." Thus begins Landry Brewer's clarification of a great misunderstanding from the teaching of error, so pronounced in our time. Clearly presented and highly recommended!

Naaman — A Man Who "Thought"
As has been recently observed about today's economy, there is a lot of "a-gley" in the air: "The best laid schemes o' mice an' men gang aft a-gley" wrote the Scottish poet Robert Burns about the tendency of even the best plans to go awry. W. Claytus Anderson's short piece recounts the Old Testament example where a man had to follow God's plans, rather than insisting on following his own, as it similarly applies to God's New Testament instructions. Naaman's inclination is alive in the world of the 21st Century.

God's Library, No. 1
An overview of the library of books which is the Bible — with a omniscient unity beyond the ability of man to produce on his own — is summarized and itemized in Nathan Brewer's review. A good refresher for all.

These 4 silly responses to serious warnings show the illogic of many. This is true of the human condition throughout the ages, illustrated in this more modern set of examples. From our Editor's File Drawer Of Clippings without attribution, thus its author is unknown.
