The churches of Christ salute you. — Romans 16:16

8 New Studies and 1 New Book Notice for Autumn 2012:

"Encouraging Words of Biblical Wisdom" e-Book, at In-Print Resources on sidebar...

Are We Saved By Faith Alone?
Gary L. Grizzell returns to these pages with a question which every person should ask! He strongly supports his contention — that the reader who answers in the affirmative has fallen prey to false prophets — with solid Bible teaching. He brings forward the many, many verses that prove that the negative is true. Objections in favor of 'faith only' are brought forward, with the scriptural resolution that awaits the thoughtful Bible scholar: that good soil who is apt to hear the good news of the gospel message.

This is highly recommended reading for sincere seekers and Christians alike. May God bless your prayerful consideration of his Word!

We Ought To Obey God Rather Than Men
Jerry C. Brewer speaks of the country, the culture, and the divergence from God which continues today. Christians have more persecution to look forward to, as they continue to preach and teach the gospel of Christ. Heaven's appeal continues as Isaiah heard and saw it in a vision: "Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me" (Isaiah 6:8).

Jesus said: "Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men" (Matthew 5:13). Perhaps, if the church will repent of following the sinful ways of the world, the Lord will heal our land: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (II Chronicles 7:14).

In New Testament times the apostle Peter wrote: "For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God" (I Peter 4:17)?

The All Sufficiency Of The Bible
Let this truth come to full realization in your life: we need nothing less, or more than, the Bible. John West recounts the story of Israel's King Jeroboam, in the days of the divided kingdom. He provides a concise and compact study of this king who instituted man-made worship, and interprets that account using New Testament scriptures.

Yet, the relevance today is due to the timeless truths of the Word of God: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works" (II Timothy 3:16-17). "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:" (II Peter 1:3).

Phariseeism: Alive and Well
Jerry C. Brewer on the modus operandi of modern Pharisees in the denominational industry today.

Regarding Religion — Force Or Choice?
Religion in the news has become ever more prevalent with the violent acts of 'holy war' taking the headlines. This attention has encouraged those who practice their religion using force. Marvin L. Weir examines one recent example and contrasts the Bible account of the Mosaic and Christian dispensations with today's religious war, spread across Africa to Asia, and advancing toward Europe and North America.

Politicizing Morality
Jerry C. Brewer reviews the use of immorality in politics, particularly in the last several years. The once so-called "New Morality" is just the "Old Immorality." Abortion was a previous evil now claimed as a right, but sadly the cruel aftermath is a corpse.

The job of the church is to warn the wicked: "When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul" (Ezekiel 3:18).

Jihad: The Islamic Holy War
Kent Bailey is being the watchman on the wall, to warn both the wicked and their victims. This will be another great persecution, now making its way across the entire earth. Yet, we Christians are to love our enemies, and to pray for them. Let us live a faithful life, preach the Word, and do good to all men. Of great importance is to repent of our sins, so that God may choose to heal our land, and many wicked be converted, to the glory of God and for their salvation. (II Chronicles 7:14)

As Jesus wrote to the church at Smyrna: "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life" (Revelation 2:10).

"Mission" and "Work" Of The Church: Two Different Things
The church of Christ has a singular mission. Jerry C. Brewer parses the mission of the church vs. the work of the church. It is good to clarify the basics in light of the scripture!
